Partnering is not just for the construction phase of a
project. Just as a piano is a tool for creating music, partnering is a tool for solving
problems and creating cooperation. It can be applied and work well in other areas. The
following are some of the areas in which ORGMETRICS has been involved
recently:General Contractor and Subs
Either for a specific project, or for key subs that you use frequently the parties work
together to create shared administrative processes, build trust, establish lines of
communication, and even sponsor management training or other skill building.
Value Engineering Workshop
Held between the owner, designers, general contractor, and subs, this type of
partnering can dramatically improve the value engineering process while maintaining the
integrity of the design.
Constructability Workshop
Bringing together the owner, designer, and contractor for the sole purpose of
discussing the best means for constructing a project can drastically reduce costs when
held during the conceptual phase of a design/build project.
Internal Partnering
Works to break down the internal barriers within an agency or organization, such as
that between estimating and field crews; design and construction; accounting and
operations.
Labor Management Partnering
Prior to negotiating a new labor agreement, or when there is growing conflict, this
partnering works to bring things back to a more cooperative state. It is surprising how
many common interests labor and management have as project stakeholders.
Strategic Partnering
This process explores the strengths or each party, examines the marketplace, and then
creates a strategy to create competitive advantage.
